CAMROSE, Alta. Yeezy 350 Clearance . - Winnipegs Mike McEwen held the hammer in the 11th, scoring one to defeat Glenn Howard of Penetanguishene, Ont., 5-4 in the mens semifinal at the Canada Cup curling tournament on Saturday night.McEwen will face Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., in the championship game on Sunday afternoon.Ill be perfectly honest, today felt like the final for us, McEwen said. Tomorrow its still going to be real tense and everyone will want to win real bad but today felt like the most was on the line. This was our final.Earlier in the day, Edmontons Val Sweeting advanced to the womens final after edging Heather Nedohin of Sherwood Park, Alta., 7-6.After three scoreless ends, McEwen stole a deuce from Howard in the fourth to go up 2-0.The teams exchanged points in the fifth and sixth ends, before being held scoreless in the seventh. Both Howard and McEwen used the hammer in the eighth and ninth ends to grab singles before Howard stole a pair in the 10th to force extras.Oh, God, they played well, Howard said of McEwens team. I dont feel bad coming off that game. I dont know if they had any misses and we had a couple and that was it. It was fantastic. On the womens side, Sweeting will play Rachel Homan of Ottawa for the womens championship on Sunday. Sweeting scored a single in the 11th end to secure her semifinal victory.Nedohin gave up a steal of one in the ninth end and allowed Sweeting to escape without having to throw last rock in the 11th. Nedohins last-rock raise attempt was wide and left Sweeting sitting with the winning point. Both skips struggled at times, finishing with their lowest shooting percentages of the week, both at less than 70 per cent.Did they shorten the rings of something overnight? Sweeting joked afterwards. It was quick out there. I was heavy a lot, but I made the ones that matter, thats what counts. She credited her teammates with playing a major role in the victory. The whole team hung in there. I was struggling a bit with my draws but the team was really good, they were just, You know what? Weve got this, its ours. They really hung in there.Though Sweeting struggled with draws, she made the key shots, including a perfect draw to the button for two in the eighth and her first lead of the game.Nedohin counted one in the first, two in the third, one in the seventh and two in the 10th to force the extra end. Sweeting countered with one in the third, deuces in the fifth and eight and a steal of one in the ninth.I missed the shot, Nedohin said of her try at a come-around tap back in the ninth. When your skip misses a shot in nine and they get a steal its the turning point, absolutely. My thoughts were to get two, maybe an opportunity for three. The game swung in Sweetings favour in the eighth end when she made a tight but perfectly placed draw to the button for two and a 5-4 lead. SURPRISE, Ariz. China Jerseys For Sale . - Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington finally has a contract past this season. General manager Jon Daniels said Monday that the Rangers have added a year to Washingtons contract through 2015. Washington is the teams winningest manager with 611 wins over seven seasons, and led Texas to its only two World Series appearances. The Rangers had last extended Washingtons contract in January 2012, when two years were added through 2014. Asked what took long to get this new deal done, Daniels said mostly because there was never any question about whether Washington would get an extension. Only three managers have been with their current teams longer than Washington. They are Mike Scioscia of the Los Angeles Angels, Minnesotas Ron Gardenhire and Tampa Bays Joe Maddon. For the third consecutive year, Azarenka knocked American Sloane Stephens out of the Australian Open.Their matches at Melbourne Park have all been one-sided — Azarenka has won all three in straight sets — but they havent lacked drama. Two years ago, the two women faced off in the semifinals when Azarenka was the defending champion and Stephens a fresh-faced 19-year-old who had just upset No. 1-ranked Serena Williams in the quarters.Azarenka was comfortably ahead for much of the match, but the momentum began to shift in the second set. Azarenka, appearing flustered, called for an extended injury time-out that was considered by many to be strategic. Azarenka went on to win the match and her second title at Melbourne Park.Last year, the tension between the players was evident when Stephens icily described their relationship as nonexistent before they met in the fourth round. Despite her pre-match confidence, though, the result was the same: another Azarenka victory. When the Australian Open draw came out this year, Stephens said she had a funny feeling.I knew I was going to play her. Of course, Im not seeded, shes not seeded and were going to play each other, she said, before joking, The draws rigged, I swear. Stitched Jerseys For Sale. I need to go talk to (tournament director) Craig Tiley because this is ridiculous. Both Azarenka and Stephens came into 2015 on the mend — and hoping for a good result in Australia to build on.Azarenka played in just nine tournaments last year due to a left foot injury, causing her ranking to slip to No. 44 and for her to be unseeded at a major for the first time since the 2007 U.S. Open. She said she still needs more matches to feel comfortable on court again, though she looked sharp in her 6-3, 6-2 win over Stephens as she guided backhand winners down the line and volleyed with crisp precision. She even sounded like the Vika of old, pumping herself up with emphatic Come ons! and punctuating her shots with high-pitched hoots. Can she hoist the trophy again this year? The dreams are always big, and I think thats kind of the light in the end of the tunnel, Azarenka said. I dont know if its going to happen here or whenever, I just want to work and have that mentality that thats what I want to achieve.Stephens game, on the other hand, remains a work in progress. She is coming back from a wrist injury and is now on her third coach in the past year, Nick Saviano, who previously coached her when she was a rising junior. She believes shes due for a turnaround soon, particularly against Azarenka.Im going to do my best and hopefully, she said before stopping herself, No not hopefully. I will beat her one day. ' ' '
Claudio Ranieri believes Leicester Citys shock title triumph has restored his reputation in the minds of his critics ahead of an emotional return to former club Chelsea this Sunday. Kirk Gibson Jersey . The 64-year-olds appointment last July was heavily criticised by pundits and former players alike, but the Italians side have since undergone an extraordinary transformation from relegation favourites to Premier League champions.Sacked at Chelsea by owner Roman Abramovich in 2004 after failing to deliver the title and replaced by Jose Mourinho, Ranieri insisted he didnt covet acclaim from his former employers following his achievements with Leicester. MIAMI -- Canadas Milos Raonic defeated Spains Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-1, 6-2 on Monday to reach the fourth round of the Sony Open for the first time in his career. Lawyer Milloy Jersey . For the last two years, Raonic had stalled at the third-round stage at Crandon Park. He withdrew last year due to strep throat and suffered an injury the year before. Raonic, the No. 12 seed, needed just 56 minutes to complete the victory. He fired 10 aces and had service breaks on four of eight chances. The Canadian produced 26 winners and lost just five points on his serve in the match. "It was a good way to start the day with a quick win and an early match," Raonic said. The Canadian blew through the opening set in 25 minutes and took only slightly longer to secure the second. Raonic broke for a 2-1 lead in the second set and didnt look back. He said he was particularly pleased with his service game and felt he had made strides since his win over the 55th-ranked Spaniard in Davis Cup play last year. "Ive improved in general on second serve," Raonic said. "That allows me to better take advantage of my opportunities." Raonic, who did not face a break point, will next play Germanys Benjamin Becker. "Its going to be tough no matter who I play," he said. "I always know the opponents can play well. But its up to me to do what I need to do to win. "My good serving gives me confidence, it makes my days a lot easier." The 23-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., played with a sleeve on his right arm for the second straight match. "I was using a lotion and it didnt react well to the sun," he said. "The sleeve is just for protection, thats all." The deal will now run through the 2020 season and also increases the coachs compensation to $3.6 million per year. Tennessee finished 6-6 in 2014 after three straight seasons of 5-7 and will play Iowa in the TaxSlayer Bowl on Jan. 2 in Jacksonville. The Vols last reached a bowl game after the 2010 campaign. When you are rebuilding a program, you face many challenges in order to change the culture, said Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart on Monday. A tireless effort is required from the entire organization. The most critical piece of the puzzle is leadership, and we have the right man leading our football program. Butch Jones has re-energized our fan base and is an outstanding ambbassador for our university. Jermaine Eluemunor Jersey. The Vols are 11-13 in two seasons under Jones, who took over in December 2012 after three years in Cincinnati and three years at Central Michigan. He owns a career coaching mark of 61-40. I am very honored and grateful to be the head football coach at the University of Tennessee, and I understand what this program represents, said Jones. This has been a complete team effort as we continue to rebuild and restore the Tennessee football program to the standards and expectations that we all have. In eight seasons as a head coach, Jones has led his teams to six bowl appearances. He was 23-14 at Cincinnati, leading the Bearcats to consecutive Big East titles in 2011 and 12, and also guided Central Michigan to a pair of Mid-American championships with a mark of 27-13 during his three years with the Chippewas. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats would be forgiven if they entered this year with the team they finished with last season. Jim Nance Jersey . The Henry Burris-led squad finished second in the East Division before advancing to the Grey Cup where they ultimately fell to the home field advantage wielding Saskatchewan Roughriders. For a team that finished 6-12 the previous year, and hadnt made a Grey Cup appearance since winning the trophy in 1999, that qualifies as progress, a significant amount. And more than that, you could argue the team was on the cusp of greatness, a couple tweaks away from finishing the job in 2014. But the Ticats opted against trotting out the same lineup – or a very similar one at least – to take another shot this season. Instead they went for a big shakeup at a key position, one that may lead to some immediate regression, but that could pay off handsomely in the future. Gone is Burris, one of the teams leaders the past two years, and his league-leading stats. After throwing for 10,292 yards and 67 touchdowns the past two years with the Ticats, head coach and general manager Kent Austin allowed Burris to leave in free agency where he signed with the Ottawa Redblacks. The team opted instead for promising youngster Zach Collaros, who proved he more than belonged in the league – and may offer a lot more with extended play – with the Toronto Argonauts last year while Ricky Ray was sidelined with a shoulder injury. Despite Burris taking the Ticats to the peak of the mountain last year, theres a perception hes maybe not the guy to get a team over the mountain, and the Ticats decided to cut bait and build with a quarterback they feel more confident in. For all Collaros heroics filling in and keeping the Argos in contention last season, hes still a young quarterback with just 298 CFL passing attempts to his name. While the Ticats are convinced theyre in for big things with Collaros at QB, and theyre not the only ones as evident by the mini bidding war that went on to secure his services, some growing pains should still be expected with a 26-year-old pivot, especially one learning a new offence. So while Burris may have been the better option for Hamiltons prospects in 2014, considering his age and difficulty winning the big one, going with Collaros upward trending career is the smarter move for ultimate success. Hamilton hopes theyre taking one step back to make two steps forward. This reasonability of this move is buoyed by the general strength of the roster surrounding Collaros. Hell be in the backfield with one of the most exciting running backs in the league in CJ Gable, who finished fourth in the league in rushing with 782 yards but was the clear frontrunner in highlight reel spin-o-ramas frequently seen on Sportcentre Honour Rolls. And the Ticats already robust receiving corps added more talent this off-season. Joining Andy Fantuz, Bakari Grant, and Greg Ellingson will be Cary Koch, an underrated threat who spent the first four years of his CFL career split between Saskatchewan and Edmonton, really breaking out with the Eskimos the past two years. And while the addition isnt likely to help Collaros directly, Craig Butler joins an improving defensive unit. Notes Expansion Draft The Tiger-Cats got off easy in the first two rounds of the expansion draft before a surprise pick in the third. Backup running back Chevon Walker and FB John Delahunt were grabbed in Round 1 and 2 before Marwan Hage, surprisingly still available, was taken by the Ottawa Redblacks in the third round. It was clear the Ticats were moving on from Hage after he was left available in the final round of the draft. Hage Retires Hages time in Ottawa wasnt lasting, and the affable offensive lineman did the right thing in returning to Hamilton to retire. It was as good an ending to a solid 10-year career that Tiger-Cats fans could have hoped for, not having to see him in another teams colours. Free Agency Its hard to argue the Ticats werent the winners of free agency after landing their quarterback of the present and future in Collaros, another weapon in the receiving corps in Cary Koch, a decent offensive line replacement in Steve Myddleton, front seven defensive help in Ted Laurent and Abraham Kromah, and a solid Canadian safety in Craig Butler. CFL Draft The Tiger-Cats took a chance on their second of two first round picks and paid for it when Manitoba defensive lineman Evan Gill, a player they traded up for, decided he would return to school and try his luck at an NFL tryout next season. Gill entered the draft a bit of a risk with a quad injury but the Ticats selected him anyway, perhaps opting for the long play. The team also selected Western LB Beau Landry, one pick before Gill in the first round, who later signed with the team. After the first, Hamilton didnt make another pick until the fifth round, taking Toronto LB Christopher Johnson. The Ticats wrapped the draft up with sixth-round defensive linemen Mathieu Girard (Montreal) and Stephen Mawa (UBC), and seventh-round defensive lineman Martin Pesek from Acadia. Tim Hortons Field After a successful campaign at the University of Guelph last season, the Ticats return home to Hamilton for 2014, to the same location Ivor Wynne Stadium once stood. PITTSBURGH -- James Neals power-play goal 1:27 into overtime lifted the Pittsburgh Penguins to a wild 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. Nike NBA Jerseys 2020 . Neals slapshot over Anders Lindbacks right shoulder capped a frantic final 15 minutes of play as the teams traded the lead three times. Evgeni Malkin had two goals and two assists while Sidney Crosby added a goal and two assists for the Penguins, who have won nine straight over the Lightning. Jeff Zatkoff stopped 21 shots and Pittsburgh ended Tampa Bays five-game winning streak. Steven Stamkos, Valtteri Filppula and Ondrej Palat scored for the Lightning, who have recorded at least one point in eight straight games. Lindback made 25 saves but had no chance on Neals 23rd goal of the season. The teams spent two periods playing the kind of conservative hockey more suited for the Stanley Cup playoffs than the wide-open attacking style more fitting for two of the most offensively talented teams in the league. No matter, they made up for it in the third. Stamkos broke a 1-1 tie 8:17 into the final period when he poked a rebound underneath Zatkoffs legs to put the Lightning in front. The lead lasted less than three minutes, as Malkin pounced on a rebound off a Matt Niskanen slapshot into an open net for his third goal in two games. Malkins 23th of the season came with 3:17 left in regulation when he powered a shot by Lindback that seemed to deflate the Lightning. It did, but only momentarily. Palat stunned the 319th consecutive sellout crowd at Consol Energy Center when he cleanly beat Zatkoff to tie the game at 3 with just 1:22 left in regulation. Tampa Bay gave the leagues top-ranked power play a chance to end it when the Lightning were called for too many men on the ice 1:11 into overtime. The Penguins needed just 16 seconds to win it as Malkin set up Neal in the forwards favourite spot at the top of the left circle. The puck was a blur as it sailed into the net as Pittsburgh bounced back from a 5-4 overtime loss to Detroit on Thursday when the Red Wings scored on a bounce off a Penguins defenceman with less than a second to go in overtime. The Lightning have been the hottest team in hockey not named the Boston Bruins since Stamkos return from a leg injury last month. Fueled by their star -- and his elevation to captain after Martin St. Louis was traded to the New York Rangers -- Tampa Bay has sprinted to third in the Eastern Conference standings. They certainly looked like one of the conferences elite while trying to end a lengthy bout of futility against Pittsburgh. Tampa Bay clogged the neutral zone and seemed to have the upper hand at times when the teams were playing at full strength. Seven penalties, however, did them in. The Penguins went 3 for 6 on the power play. Lopez held championship point against Grigor Dimitrov last week at Queens Club, and he is the first player to reach back-to-back grass-court finals before Wimbledon since 2001, when Lleyton Hewitt won at Queens and s-Hertogenbosch, and Thomas Johansson won Halle and Nottingham. There was little to separate him and Gasquet, with two breaks giving the Spanish left-hander the opening set, and Gasquet, the 2005 and 2006 champion, sneaking the tiebreaker in the second. In the third set, games went with serve until Lopez broke to lead 6-5 and then served out for the fourth title of his career. Keys win came after she fired 17 aces and struck a serve clocked at 126 mph (203 kph), the fastest this year on the WTA tour, and if confirmed, would establish her as one of the top five fastest servers since records began in 1989. Most of the rallies were short and just one break of serve decided the first two sets, with Keys breaking to lead 3-1 in the first and Kerber 2-0 in the second. Games went with serve in the third until the dramatic 12th game. Kerber held two game points to take the set to a tiebreaker before Keys claimed victory on her fourth match point. "Its always not easy when somebody is serving like she did the whole match," Kerber said. "She played at a really high level." With Coco Vendeweghe winning at s-Hertogenbosch, two American women have won titles in the same week for the first time since February 2002. Two Spanish men also won titles on Saturday, with Roberto Bautista Agut winning his first title at s-Hertogenbosch. ' ' '
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. Khris Middleton Jersey Signed . -- Martin Kaymer stopped thinking, started swinging and played his way into the record book Thursday in The Players Championship. Kaymer missed only two fairways. He putted for birdie on all but one hole. And the former PGA champion finished with four straight birdies to become only the fourth player to shoot 9-under 63 on the Stadium Course at the TPC Sawgrass, giving him a two-shot lead over Russell Henley. Kaymer took advantage of a perfect day for scoring -- warm weather, hardly any wind and soft greens. There were 28 rounds in the 60s, which made the score by Adam Scott look even worse. With another chance -- his best one yet -- to get to No. 1 in the world for the first time, Scott finished with a pair of double bogeys from shots in the water and signed for a 77. It was his highest opening round at The Players since his first trip in 2002. Kaymer was flawless, hitting whatever shot he felt he needed. His final blow was a hybrid that ran through the ninth green and into a bunker, leaving a simple up-and-down for birdie. He had a 29 on the back, the first player in the 32-year history at Sawgrass to break 30 on either nine. Roberto Castro also opened with a 63 last year. The only others with 63 were Greg Norman in the first round in 1994, and Fred Couples in the third round in 1992. "Its just a nice bonus," Kaymer said. "Its only the first round of a long, long tournament. Its nice to make some history. No one shot 29 on that golf course before." Kaymer would not have seemed like a good candidate. He has not won since the HSBC Champions in Shanghai at the end of 2011. He hasnt had a top 10 all year. But the 29-year-old German has felt his swing start to come together in recent weeks. His name has been featured on leaderboards more and more. And he had a simple explanation. "I stopped thinking," Kaymer said, a former world No. 1. "I thought a lot the last two years about swing changes ... that every shot I made I reflect on it, what I did wrong, what I did right." A few weeks before the Masters, he spent time with longtime swing coach Gunter Kessler in Phoenix, and then they had another good session in Germany. "And then it just clicked a little bit," he said. "I thought, OK, I know I can hit pretty much every shot when I needed to hit it. If its a draw, if its a fade, low or high, I know that I can do it. Its just a matter of getting the confidence on the golf course and then letting it happen and really doing it." Henley, who won the Honda Classic in a four-way playoff in March, made birdie on half of his holes to atone for one big mistake. He hooked a tee shot into the water on No. 7 and compounded that with a three-putt for double bogey. But he answered with six birdies on the back nine for a 65. "I knew I was playing well and felt really comfortable on the greens," Henley said. "But it was one of those back nines where you get to 18 and I just realized that I had a putt for 7 under. So that was pretty cool." Bae Sang-Moon had a 66. The group at 67 included Sergio Garcia, who spent last year in a war or words with Tiger Woods that lasted right up until the Spaniard hit three balls into the water on the two closing holes and Woods walked away with the win. Garcia looked sharp, happy and was confident in his game. And he had loads of company. Lee Westwood, 20-year-old Jordan Spieth and U.S. Open champion Justin Rose also were at 67. The group at 68 included Ernie Els and Dustin Johnson. There were 67 rounds under par, and the scoring average of 71.99 was the eighth-lowest for an opening round at The Players Championship. But it wasnt easy for everyone. Rory McIlroy made three bogeys over his last seven holes and tumbled to a 70. That was nearly as bad as Phil Mickelson. Coming off a 76 in the final round at Quail Hollow last week, he started his round by missing a 3-foot par putt and shot 75. Of the four players with a mathematical chance to reach No. 1, only Masters champion Bubba Watson broke 70. He had a 69, while Henrik Stenson and Matt Kuchar each had a 71. Only four players had a worse score than Scott. Kaymer reached No. 1 three years ago, and then sought to change his swing because he could only hit a fade. He prefers to play by feel, not by mechanics. A swing change left him little choice but to think too much. Now, he can only hope its as simple as see the shot and hit the ball. Bibeau, Torontos sixth-round pick at No. 172 overall in last years draft, was named the outstanding goaltender of the 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup.ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Even coach Bruce Boudreau acknowledged the Anaheim Ducks played perhaps their most dynamic hockey of the season early in their 5-3 win over Carolina on Sunday night. The Hurricanes were suitably impressed, but they didnt stand a chance when the NHLs best were playing their best. Corey Perry had two goals and an assist in the first period, Andrew Cogliano scored a short-handed goal, and the Ducks jumped to an early 5-0 lead in their second straight victory out of the Olympic break. Frederik Andersen made 49 saves in his first action since Feb. 3 for the league-leading Ducks, who scored three times in an overwhelming first period filled with sharp passes, relentless skating and outstanding finishes. "We were as good as we can be," said Boudreau, who won his 100th game in Anaheim. Francois Beauchemin and Jakob Silfverberg also scored as the Ducks won their NHL-best 43rd game and stayed five points ahead of Chicago and St. Louis in the overall league standings. Anaheim coasted late in its third consecutive win overall, giving Boudreau plenty of fuel for practice even while he complimented his team on its start. The first 30 minutes were a beauty: Perry got his 31st and 32nd goals during his sixth multigoal game of the season, while Cogliano set a new career high with the 19th goal of his breakout season. "If we play like that all the time, well be tough to beat for anybody," Cogliano said. "I think we played really fast, moving the puck really well." Andersen was solid while earning his sixth win in his last seven starts, but the Danish goalie could be headed back to the AHL after the game. Viktor Fasth, who has been out since Nov. 18 with muscle inflammation, is due to return to Anaheim as Jonas Hillers backup. "If we play like that, were as good as anyone," Andersen said of the first period. "Weve just got to figure out a way to play like that for a whole game." Alexander Semin, Andrej Sekera and Patrick Dwyer scored in Carolinas fifth straight loss overall and its fourth in six days since the break. Cam Ward stopped 29 shots in just his second start of 2014, and the Hurricanes followed up Saturdays 3-1 loss at Los Angeles with another disappointing effort. Kenny Anderson Jersey Signed. "You take the little positives that you can out of it," Hurricanes defenceman John-Michael Liles said. "We did put a lot of shots at their goalie, and he made some good saves. Ultimately, getting down early against a good team is tough, and it was a tough battle to get back. But were moving the puck well and were getting opportunities. Thats the biggest thing. We just got snake-bit." Indeed, Carolina put up 26 shots and scored twice in the third period, but went scoreless on six power plays to drop into an 0-for-21 slump. The Hurricanes conclude their five-game road trip out of the break Tuesday in San Jose. "Weve been pretty sound defensively," Carolina coach Kirk Muller said. "We just havent been scoring goals. Tonight we made a couple of mistakes early in the first, and they capitalized. They have some good players." Perry put the Ducks ahead 6:39 in, punching in a loose puck after the Canes defence came unglued during a shift by Anaheims dominant top line. Beauchemin scored later in the period on a slap shot that deflected off Jiri Tlustys stick, and Perry got his second goal 1:48 later with a nasty wrist shot. Cogliano scored during a horrible Carolina power play early in the second period, beating Ward between the goalies legs to set his new career high for goals with 20 games still to play. Shortly after Carolina got a bench minor for too many men on the ice during a power play, Silfverberg dug the puck off the netting and scored his first goal since Jan. 15. Carolina avoided the shutout late in the second period when Sekera scored in his second straight game. Dwyer added his first goal since Jan. 9 in the third period. NOTES: Semin returned from a one-game injury absence, but Carolina lost U.S. national team defenceman Justin Faulk to an upper-body injury early in the game. Muller had no update afterward. ... Anaheim F Tim Jackman was scratched a day after signing a contract extension for next season. C Mathieu Perreault also was scratched after getting hurt in the third period Friday against St. Louis. ... Cogliano has eight short-handed goals in his career and three this season. ' ' '
TORONTO - It seems that Casey Janssens time in Toronto is coming to an end. Custom Philadelphia 76ers Jerseys . While the Blue Jays closer of the last three seasons wouldnt formally shut the door on a return, Janssens poised to test the free agent waters for the first time in his big league career. Janssen reflects on his time in Toronto, his pitch selection and adjustments during a second half that didnt go as well as the first half and he shares the names of three teammates whove impressed him during his nine seasons with the Blue Jays. Listen to the interview here. Here is the transcript of the interview: TSN.ca: Casey lets not waste any time getting down to brass tacks. Do you anticipate being a Toronto Blue Jay next season? JANSSEN: Its really tough to say. Ive never had the opportunity to test free agency. Ive enjoyed my time here and the opportunity that Ive got here to show what I was able to do is something Ill forever be grateful for. What the future holds is really out of my control and is something not only the Toronto Blue Jays would have to want me back but something that, you know, see what other opportunities arise and see what happens. TSN.ca: You have had, I think, two different halves to this season. The first half you looked like the guy from 2012 and 2013, locking down games. The second half its been a bit more of a struggle. I know youre not an excuses guy but we are looking for reasons. So maybe give me a reason or two that you think your second half has been a struggle for you and did the food poisoning from your trip to the Dominican Republic over the All-Star Break play a role? Did it take you longer to bounce back then maybe you were willing to acknowledge because you didnt want to make excuses? JANSSEN: I mean, looking back and looking at my first half and the rhythm I was in, yeah, I mean its very easy to point the finger at the food poisoning and what I had lost right there. Like you said, Im not one to make excuses but I think, looking back now its easy to say that probably affected him to some level and then from there I believe I probably created some little bad habit. TSN.ca: Mechanical? JANSSEN: Mechanical or pressing or whatever you want to call it. I left balls up and instead of being on the black they were catching a little more white. I wish I could go back and change those last two months. Obviously I cant but I think there was something, a portion and I dont know how long to say it affected me but I think from there I created some kind of flaw in my delivery that led to the downturn. TSN.ca: Over the last couple of months there have had to have been some frustrations that build up inside you. You just mentioned the word "pressing" there just a little bit. Was some of this mental too? Because I would think youre going through impending free agency for the first time, plus youre obviously wanting to close out games for a team that had won more than it had lost and was contending. Was there an element of that at all? JANSSEN: I would say it was more the team portion than the free agency portion. I want to win so bad. Thats all I want to do. I want to bring a championship to Toronto. Ive always wanted to do that. Pressing on my end, saying that man, I want to be flawless every time out there because I know every time Im out there the game is on the line and every win is so important. So, yeah, I was pressing. I wanted to save five games in the one game that I was trying to close and obviously put ourselves in the best position to win the AL East and to make the playoffs and then as I struggled I think the snowball started to get a little bigger and you know, maybe a touch there of loss of confidence and its a tough game and when youre struggling, youre searching. Youre searching for answers and sometimes its hard to just get that ball rolling on the good side again. TSN.ca: You were talking about leaving balls up. Are you referring mostly to your fastball? I was just looking at your splits for your pitches. Your usage of fastball is down a little bit over last year, about five-percent. Usage of your curveball is up three or four-percent. Have you intentionally changed anything or is that just kind of a random act this season? JANSSEN: Well I think it was definitely intentional that I did change. I think when I was going through those tougher times I felt like I was getting hit with my fastball. Yes, my command wasnt where I expect it to be and I think that led to, like you said, some of the struggles was I was getting beat with my bread and butter which is my fastball and my cutter. The only way to get the hitters off of my fastball and my cutter, because my command wasnt perfect, it was I needed to change speeds more often so I think, yes, I mean obviously throwing more offspeed pitches was intentional from the standpoint of get them off my fastball but at the same time I really like the action on my curveball this year. It was still an aggressive pitch. It wasnt that I was pitching scared with offspeed pitches. I was still, what I felt, pitching aggressively. TSN.ca: It seemed like last year, as good a year as it was for you, there was always conversation about your shoulder and there was more conversation about your shoulder through spring training because you missed a lot of time back in Dunedin dealing with some of that stuff. Where is your shoulder at right now? JANSSEN: It feels great. My body feels great. I think the arm stuff is something of the past. The spring training mishap, I think I can change up my offseason routine a little bit to make sure that doesnt happen again but Im really excited about the way my shoulder feels, the way my arm feels, the way my body feels. I cant wait for the offseason to build on what Ive started here throughout the season and continue to maintain a strong body and arm and so none of those injuries or DL time ever happen again. TSN.ca: Youre, I hate to say this but its true, youre pushing into your mid-30s now. Has all of this over the last eight, 10 years happened way quicker than it seems? I mean, youve got so much to reflect on, probably more so than youve got to look ahead. JANSSEN: Yeah. I dont feel 33. The guys keep it young and keep it fun and at the end of the day Im still playing a game so I definitely dont feel 33. But, yeah, saying most of my time here, baseball time, is in the past is crazy to think about but definitely not looking in the past, looking in the future and excited about the future and excited for whatever doors open. TSN.ca: Talk about your ties to Toronto. I know your fiancée is a Southern Ontario girl so youre always going to have links to this area whether you live here or not sometime down the road. For a Southern California kid who, correct me if Im wrong, probably didnt spend a lot of time here in Toronto growing up, what has this city and this area come to mean to you? JANSSEN: Well, its become my second home. Ive enjoyed my time here. Its definitely a city that, if youve never been here, you wouldnt appreciate it as much as I do. Its an unbelievable city. Its fun. Its a great time. I love the downtown area where you can walk everywhere. The people are great and youll have no trouble finding stuff to do in this city. Ive enjoyed every minute of it. Its been great and like I said, you might see me back here next year or you might not but there will definitely be a place in my heart for this place and either baseball or not baseball Im sure I havent seen the last of it. TSN.ca: Youve been through a few eras here so Im going to put you on the spot. This is going to be a tough one to answer but I want you to try to do it. Give me the names of three current or former teammates who youve played with with the Blue Jays who really stand out for you in terms of elite performance on the field or the way that they handled themselves on and off the field, that sort of thing. JANSSEN: The first that comes to mind is probably Roy Halladay. Just with what he was able to accomplish as a front line starter in this division and among baseball. He was as impressive to watch as anyone I can remember and definitely learned a lot from the way he approached the game. Number two, jeez. TSN.ca: Its not supposed to be easy. Youve probably had a few. JANSSEN: I would say the few years that Bautista had here when he was hitting 50-plus home runs was something to really watch and definitely was glad he was on my team and I was getting to watch it as opposed to having to compete against him. But hes a heck of a player. Hes probably right now the face of the Toronto Blue Jays and he deserves every bit of it. Third, let me think of third. Third, Id probably have to go with Vernon (Wells). Although it was more toward the beginning of my career he manned centrefield and held it down pretty well and he had some pretty special seasons as well when I was here. He was a true professional. You learned a lot about him just, like you said, how he carried himself on and off the field. He was there for the media everyday. He was the ultimate pro. Even when he did have a year or two where it didnt go perfectly his way, he was still the same person that … still carried himself the same way as that person that was the three-time Gold Glove winner and however many time All-Star. So I appreciate those guys and being able to watch them and learn from them. TSN.ca: When you assess the market and the needs of the 30 teams and Im sure youll delve more into that when the season ends, is the priority for you to close next year wherever you are? Is it winning? What is it? JANSSEN: Ive always said this, I was given the opportunity to close and I absolutely love to close but its not everything to me. If another team wanted me to pitch in the late innings, if its the seventh or the eighth or even the ninth I just like to embrace my role, whatever my role is and try to be the best at it that I can. So, no, closing isnt the ultimate priority. Obviously I want the opportunity to win and if closing and winning combines itself, great. If it doesnt then I really want to win. I really do. Thats why you play and hopefully somebody out there has seen what Ive done and wants my services. TSN.ca: Well, whatever happens Casey we wish you the best. Good luck. JANSSEN: Thank you very much. Appreciate it. Wholesale 76ers Jerseys . Lauzon rushed for 42 yards on 15 carries for the Vert et Or (2-3) while quarterback Jeremi Roch completed 19-of-32 passes for 251 yards and one interception. The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner threw for 75 officials from 30 teams on the Texas A&M campus Thursday. He also had some special guests, as former President George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara -- and her two dogs -- rolled into the facility on golf carts about 10 minutes into the workout. The always flashy Manziel was true to his over-the-top Johnny Football persona, trotting into the facility with his receivers as a tune by his buddy Drake blasted through the building. He wore camouflage shorts, a black Nike jersey with his white No. 2 and caused a stir by wearing shoulder pads and a helmet. Manziel didnt understand why it was a big deal. "You play the game in shoulder pads on Sundays," he said. "Why not come out and do it? ... For me it was a no-brainer." Manziel threw about 65 passes to six receivers, including A&M teammate Mike Evans, who like Manziel is expected to be a first round pick in the May draft. Only two passes werent caught and Evans grabbed a third long pass out of bounds. "I felt like it was good," Manziel said. "(I) was obviously going for perfection. So had a couple balls hit the ground. One was on me. One was a little bit high. I couldve got it down for him a little bit." Quarterback guru George Whitfield ran the workout. Manziel has worked with Whitfield throughout his career and has spent a big chunk of the last 2 1/2 months working with him in California. Whitfield raved about his competitiveness. "This wasnt just merely a set of routes that he was just going to go through and throw," Whitfield said. "It just feels like ... life is riding on every pass with him." Eight NFL general managers and eight head coaches were among the group, including Texans general manager Rick Smith and coach Bill OBrien. Houston has the top overall pick in the draft. Smith and OBrien liked what they saw from Manziel, but both cautioned that this is just one step in a long process. "He made the throws that you look for and that you wanted to see so it was good," Smith said. "Its just a part of it and it was impressive." Manziel, who started at A&M for two seasons, planned to meet with sseveral teams on Thursday afternoon after the workout. Philadelphia 76ers Pro Shop. Several coaches were impressed that Manziel called all the NFL officials onto the field at the end of his workout to personally thank them for coming. "College Stations a little bit of a tricky spot to get to," he said. "For me to call those guys up, just wanted to speak on my behalf as well as the six guys behind me and thank them for coming out." Tampa Bay coach Lovie Smith, who grew up in Big Sandy, Texas, enjoyed seeing Bush at the event. "Thats a first, a workout with an ex-president," Smith said. "But they do things a little differently in Texas, which is a good thing, me being a Texan." Bush sat in his golf cart during the event and posed for pictures with dozens of people afterward. But Secret Service agents shooed away reporters looking to talk to the 41st president. Manziel said he didnt notice when Bush came in. "No," he said. "I was trying to go 65 for 65." Several more Drake songs played after his introductory one and he looked loose during the workout, at times bobbing his head, covered in the matte black helmet, to the beats. There was a brief hitch in the playlist, though. When he began the workout the explicit and expletive-laden versions of the songs were played. When the 89-year-old Bush entered the building, the soundtrack quickly switched to an edited version of the same songs. He worked under centre, making throws of all distances, on the run and in the pocket. Whitfield added some challenges to the workout, waving a broom and chasing him with it on several throws. "We wanted to show that we didnt have anything to hide, that we could come out here and go through our seven-step footwork and go through all the footwork that we thought that these guys want to see," Manziel said. He finished the day with a long completion to Evans and yelled Boom! and the assembled crowd broke into applause. Whitfield was pleased with how the day went and thinks Manziel has improved since the end of the season. "He learned how big of a jump it is to go from playing on Saturdays to playing on Sundays and its a grueling process," Whitfield said. "Secondly hes come an awfully long way in his body. Hes an awful lot stronger. Hes put in his work." ' ' '

The Chicago Bears have signed former Hamilton Tiger-Cats receiver Chris Williams from the New Orleans Saints practice squad. Fake Soccer Jerseys . Williams spent the past 12 weeks on the Saints practice squad, after he and the TiCats had settled their arbitration case in October. TSN Reporter Farhan Lalji confirms that Bears head coach Marc Trestman, who saw Williams exploits in the CFL first hand during his time as the head coach of the Montreal Alouettes, was instrumental in Williams signing with Chicago. Williams will be on the Bears 53 man roster this week. According to Lalji, Williams was given a $100,000 signing bonus from the Bears. He also earned the NFL minimum salary while with the Saints, despite only being on the practice roster, so his total compensation for 2013 will be $300,000. Cheap Soccer Jerseys . JOHNS, N.L. -- Brandon Pirri, Mike Hoffman and Joe Whitney combined for 8 points, carrying much of the offensive punch for the American Hockey League All-Stars in a 7-2 rout over visiting Farjestad BK in Wednesday nights AHL All-Star game. Hoffman said their line found instant chemistry due to the players having a similar playing style. "Were all offensive-minded players so when you throw us guys together we can usually (play well) together quickly," he said. "Its nice to play in an all-star game." Pirri scored twice and added an assist, while Hoffman added a goal and two assists, Ryan Strome scored two goals, and Ben Street and Travis Morin also scored for the All-Stars. Pirri won the games MVP honour. Pirri, a Chicago Blackhawks prospect, credited the atmosphere of the game and his linemates for his MVP performance. "It was a lot of fun tonight," Pirri said. "My linemates played a big part in it. It was a lot of fun and a great experience. It was about fun today and keeping up with good habits. We had a lot of speed there and it worked out well, we found chemistry early." The All-Stars carried a 4-goal lead after the first period. "You never know when youre going to get into situations like that," Hoffman said. "We wanted to come out hard and we had a good, strong start." Magnum Nygren and Rickard Wallin replied for Farjestad BK. The AHL All-Stars opened the scoring at the 8:43 mark of the first period,, as Joe Whitney made a backhand pass across the crease to Hoffman, who tapped the puck into a wide-open net. Strome capitalized on a turnover in the slot and scored on a quick wristshot, catching Farjestad BK goalie Frederik Pettersson-Wentzel unprepared at the 10:08 mark of the first period. That made it 2-0 for the All-Stars. The All-Stars added another when Jason Jaffray found Street wide-open with a pass from behind the net. Street one-timed a wrister high blocker at the 12:00 mark of the first period. With 1:23 left in the first, Morin tipped home a Cody Goloubef slapshot from the point for the All-Stars to make it 4-0. Both teams switched goalies at the 11:32 mark of the second period. The All-Stars put in Dustin Tokarski, while Farjestad BK put in Pekka Tuokkola. Pirri added to the lead, scoring on a quick move on a breakaway before burying a shot blocker side 8:51 into the second period. Twenty-five seconds into the period, Nygren fired a point shot through heavy traffic to get Farjestad BK on the board. Pirri added another goal, finishing off a Hoffman backhand pass across the crease 3:20 into the third period. Farjestad BK made it a 6-2 game when Wallin tipped a point shot into the net at the 8:45 mark of the third. Strome drove to the net, made a toe-drag and scored with a quick wrist shot with 1:53 left in the game. Jake Allen made 14 saves for the All-Stars, while Tokarski saved 20. Pettersson-Wentzel stopped 13, and Tuokkola saved 10. ' ' '

The UEFA president decided Thursday not to challenge Blatter in an election next May, insisting he was not dodging a battle with his former mentor. Platini denied FIFA critics a potentially bitter contest, but then urged more conflict within the Blatter-led executive committee. His decision, which was expected, leaves the 78-year-old Blatter clear to win a fifth presidential term — possibly unopposed for a third straight time. Platini will focus instead on being re-elected to lead European football in March and a probable FIFA candidacy in 2019. "Now is not my time, not yet," the 59-year-old Platini said at a news conference after meeting leaders of Europes 54 football federations. "I hope that somebody will oppose Mr. Blatter and nobody will oppose me for UEFA." Platini, a FIFA vice-president, then challenged his colleagues to be "braver" standing up to Blatters power. "To bring ideas and want to change things and not just be sheep who always say yes," Platini said through a translator. The former France great seemed likely to avoid a FIFA contest after a successful World Cup strengthened Blatters position as president, which he has held since 1998. Blatter already has support from FIFAs other five continental confederations. Leaders of most of the 209 member countries have shown little desire for change as successful World Cups have raised FIFA cash reserves close to $1.5 billion. Platini dismissed one description of a contest against Blatter as "unwinnable." "No, my choice was not based on who was running," said Platini, who recalled beating another longtime sitting president, Lennart Johansson, for the UEFA job in 2007. "So I cant be accused of being afraid of Mr. Blatter." UEFA members were meeting for the first time since they confronted Blatter in Brazil in June over his style of leadership and alleged corruption implicating FIFA. They also reminded the veteran Swiss official of his 2011 promise to step aside aafter his current mandate. Authentic MLB Jerseys. That hostile encounter in Sao Paulo on the eve of the World Cup fueled speculation of a FIFA challenge by Platini or a senior UEFA nominee. "We went for peace. I think it is the logical decision," Iceland football association president Geir Thorsteinsson told The Associated Press on Thursday. In Brazil, one option emerged for UEFA to put Netherlands federation president Michael van Praag as a candidate after he delivered Europes blunt message to Blatter. Van Praag dismissed that option Thursday. "It wont be me," the UEFA board member told the BBC. "There was no backing because (UEFA members) also believe that if our candidate is not being Michel Platini, he wont have any chance at all." Platini opting out could prompt another candidate to launch a challenge, Van Praag suggested. "Now it is known that he doesnt do it so maybe there is somebody else in the world who thinks, Now I have a chance," the Dutchman said. Platini said he would "support him or her that will bring something new to world football and will defend the interests of European football." "I know some of you were expecting me to attack FIFA but that is not my goal here," Platini said. "Quite obviously we want a FIFA that works better, more transparency, more solidarity and more respected by those that love football." Platini, whose campaigning for Blatter in 1998 helped defeat Johansson for the vacant presidency, now questioned the integrity of the FIFA presidents public statements. "Im not sure he always believes what he says," Platini said, referring to Blatters recent support for video replay, coaches challenges of referee decisions and additional substitutes in extra time. "I think deep down he is against all that." FIFA has set a late-January deadline for candidates to declare for the secret ballot scheduled for May 29 in Zurich. Former FIFA international relations director Jerome Champagne has said he will stand, though acknowledged in January he could not beat his former boss and longtime ally. ' ' '
HOYLAKE, England -- The ovations from the packed galleries remain as warm as ever for Tom Watson at the British Open. Where can one buy good quality but cheap jerseys . His scoring continues to be just as impressive, too. The 64-year-old Watson extended his record of being the oldest man to make the cut at the games oldest major when he shot a 1-over 73 on Friday. That put him at 2-over 146, just on the cut line. "Lets see what happens on the weekend," the five-time British Open winner said, with that glint in his eye. "See if the old guy can maybe get it rolling a little bit." Playing a brand of "old mans golf," as he put it, Watson outlasted Masters champion Bubba Watson as well as Webb Simpson, Patrick Reed and Harris English -- three guys looking to make the U.S. Ryder Cup team captained by Watson. The way Watson has been hitting the ball this week, he wouldnt look out of place on the team at Gleneagles in September. "Im thinking about picking the captain," he said, laughing. He needed a par 5 at No. 18 to stay at Hoylake for another two days and, to the delight of the spectators filling the horseshoe stand around the green, he avoided trouble and made it with ease. "It was pretty special playing with Tom, and the reception he got," Jim Furyk said. "And to watch him grind it out and make a birdie on the way in and make the cut was pretty cool. "I was pulling for him pretty hard on No. 18." Royal Liverpool is not among the venues where Watson lifted the claret jug between 1975 and 83, but he is as popular here as at Muirfield, Royal Birkdale or anywhere else on the Open rotation. He acknowledged that he has been looking up at the stands more this year, soaking up the tournaments special atmosphere in his next-to-last appearance at a British Open -- provided, of course, he doesnt finish in the top 10 at St. Andrews in 2015. And who would bet against that? "I am enjoying it," he said. "Today on the practice range, my swing turned around. I really started hitting the ball well. ... It was the best warm-up session Ive had all year. I felt very good going out to the golf course." When he bogeyed No. 10 after hitting his gap wedge over the green from the middle of the fairway, Watson was missing the cut line at 3 over and under pressure. He hit every fairway after that, picking up that crucial birdie at No. 14 and parring his way home. Two solid shots at No. 18 allowed him to enjoy the ovation from all sides as he approached the green. "It was a pleasure playing with a little bit of heat on me to make the cut and doing so well, especially coming down the stretch," he said. The headaches over Ryder Cup selection can wait for a few days. Watson has something else to occupy his mind at the British Open this weekend. It didnt take him long to settle down. Brooks scored a season-high 26 points to pick up the slack for the injured James Harden, and the Rockets beat the Timberwolves 112-101 on Saturday night. "When your All-Star goes out it takes a collective group to get it done," Brooks said. "Thats what we did -- everybody. Dwight (Howard) gave up a little bit of himself in scoring, passed it to others and we got the job done." Brooks, who entered the game averaging 2.8 points, had a big second quarter, making four 3-pointers and scoring 16 points. He finished with six 3-pointers. It was his most points since scoring 28 for the Rockets against Utah in April of 2010. Coach Kevin McHale talked about the challenge of Brooks stepping in when he hadnt been getting a lot of playing time. "Its very difficult," McHale said. "His second quarter was special. He really had it going. He was making shots. Aaron did a great job tonight." The Rockets led throughout, and Omri Casspi, Jeremy Lin and Brooks made consecutive 3-pointers in a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter and extend the lead to 91-74. Harden, who leads the Rockets with 24.2 points per game, sat out with a sore left foot. Lin started in his place and scored 19, but it was Brooks who shined. "(Brooks) was amazing," Howard said. "Shot the ball well, played great defence ... (he) was a big reason why we won the game." Kevin Love had 27 points and 15 rebounds, and Corey Brewer scored 22 for the Timberwolves. "When you try to make runs they kept hitting 3s," Love said. "We showed fight, but in the end its really tough when the first three shots of the fourth quarter are from 3 and they hit three in a row." Brooks, whos in his second stint with the Rockets, is a crowd favourite and the home fans cheered wildly every time he entered the game. Brooks also had five assists, four rebounds and a steal. "Well, I coached him, so Ive seen him do that a lot,&" said Minnesota coach Rick Adelman, who coached Brooks in Houston from 2008-11. How to Buy Cheap Jerseys. "It doesnt surprise me." Patrick Beverley had 17 points and made a career-high five 3-pointers, and Terrence Jones added 18 points and had 10 rebounds for Houston. Howard had 11 points and led the team with 13 rebounds. McHale loved the balanced scoring effort with Harden out, but was unhappy that his team had 23 turnovers to just 10 by the Timberwolves. "I told our guys we have to play more efficiently and a little bit smarter," McHale said. "Weve got to create more space for each other on the floor so we can attack." The Rockets led 82-74 entering the fourth quarter. The Timberwolves used a 15-4 spurt in the third quarter, fueled by three 3-pointers, to cut Houstons lead to 65-57. Love made a 3-pointer before a turnover by Chandler Parsons that led to a dunk by Brewer capped the run. An exasperated McHale put his hands on his head as he watched Brewers dunk and quickly called a timeout. McHales short pep talk must have gotten Houstons attention. The Rockets responded with a 10-5 run to extend their lead to 75-62 with about 3 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter. The Rockets led by eight points late in the second quarter before using a 9-2 run thanks to three straight 3-pointers, including two by Brooks, to stretch the lead to 52-37. Minnesota scored five quick points on a dunk by Kevin Martin and a 3-pointer from Brewer to close the gap. But Lin sunk a 3-pointer at the buzzer to extend Houstons lead to 55-42 at halftime. NOTES: McHale said Harden visited a doctor on Saturday and they are going to change his treatment plan. He said Harden will likely miss Mondays game as well. ... Lin had a bump on his forehead and was holding ice on it after the game. It was unclear how he was injured and he wasnt available to reporters after the game because he was seeing a doctor. ... Also out for the Rockets on Saturday were Ronnie Brewer, who has a strained right calf, and Greg Smith, who has a sprained right knee. ... It was Howards ninth double-double of the season. ... Ricky Rubio had eight assists for Minnesota. ' ' '

This week, topics cover Brett Lawries move to second base, Masahiro Tanakas scorching start, the next MLB commissioner and the epidemic of pitching injuries. 1. While moving Brett Lawrie to 2B gives the Blue Jays a better offensive lineup the player is clearly unhappy making the move going as far as saying hes not a fan of it to the media. How much consideration should a players happiness or wishes play into the GM or coach making that kind of move or decision? The mental part of baseball is often more important than the physical part of the game. The way a player feels often impacts how he performs, however, it is difficult to predict how any single player will react to a certain emotion. Sometimes the same emotion can be motivating for one player and paralyzing for another. I can understand how a player can be bothered by a position change. Ball players are creatures of habit. They dont like change because it makes them uncomfortable. Brett Lawrie said, “I am a third baseman.” It is his identity. Players are their position. Lawrie needs to change his view of his identity. He is a Blue Jay not a third baseman. I remember when I was GM for the Mets and we were considering moving Mike Piazza from behind home plate to first base. Ownership said, “Just move him. We are paying him $13M per year and he should do what he is told.” I explained that we could do that, but we needed to treat a star like Piazza with the appropriate respect. If we wanted him to perform, we needed him to buy into the change, plus, we didnt want a controversy with our star because other players watch how you treat your current players. I told ownership that we needed to treat our stars properly in order to lure other stars. Brett Lawrie isnt a star. He is “just a guy.” He is a borderline starter in the majors. He is overrated. Lawrie was hyped when he got to the majors and had a very good quarter season in 2011, but he hasnt lived up to the hype and has been a disappointment. Seriously, he is complaining? He should be grateful for the opportunities he continues to get from the Jays. He has no room to complain. When I was with the Mets we moved Edgardo Alfonzo from second base to third base when we acquired Robbie Alomar from the Indians in 2002. Alfonzo had been established as an All-Star second baseman. He was a bit reluctant, but ultimately realized it was good for the team and moved. He had a heckuva lot more right to be upset than Lawrie. Lawrie is closer to being out of the Majors than he is to being an All Star. If it were me, I would tell Lawrie that we are moving you to second base and, if he has any gripes, I would option him to the minors and see how he likes it. If he gets mad, but keeps his mouth shut, maybe it will help him. As I said earlier, emotions arent all bad. He hasnt yet earned the right to be comfortable. The major leagues are about performance. Be grateful you are a big leaguer Brett. 2. Will Yankees starter Masahiro Tanakas hot start be able to withstand a second trip through the league when teams start making adjustments and to the increased work load as he works his way into the season? Masahiro Tanaka went 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA in 2013 for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of the Japanese Professional League. He led them to a Japanese Professional Title, winning six more playoff games and finishing the year 30-0. So far this season, he is 6-0 with a 2.17 ERA. He has a remarkable strikeout-to-walk ratio of 66:7 in 58 innings pitched. He is a remarkable 36-0 over the past two years combined. That is unheard of. No one is that good. There is no way that he can maintain this level of success. No one can. Can he? Tanaka has extraordinary command and control of his pitches. He shows great poise on the mound. He doesnt have an overpowering fastball, but he has an overpowering ability to throw his pitches where he wants. He is Greg Maddux-like in that way. His out-pitch is different than Maddux, as he uses a devastating split-finger fastball to put away hitters. Tanaka has the ability to get hitters out with pitches in the strike zone. Many pitchers use a sequence of pitches with which they try and expand the strike zone, ultimately throwing a pitch off of the plate to get hitters to chase. Tanaka can do that, but he has the confidence and quality of stuff to also throw his well-located pitches in the strike zone to retire hitters. Tanaka has movement, change of speeds, deception and the ability to throw any pitch at any time in the count. This is a tremendous formula for success. The league will make some adjustments to him. He will ultimately lose a game or two, bbut the only real threat to him will be fatigue. In Japan, starters typically make only one start per week. He is now taking the mound every fifth day. At some point, this may present a challenge. The Yankees have so much unpredictability this year but that certainly doesnt include their #1 starter, Masahiro Tanaka. 3. What will the newly formed search committee be looking for in the next MLB commissioner? The search committee will be gathering ideas from all 30 teams while overseeing the process of selecting a new commissioner. The seven-person committee of owners/CEOs/chairman is as follows: Bill DeWitt (Cardinals), Dick Monfort (Rockies), David Montgomery (Phillies), Arte Moreno (Angels), Bob Nuttig (Pirates), Jim Pohlad (Twins) and Jerry Reinsdorf (White Sox). The Cardinals DeWitt, is serving as the chairman of the committee. "Our committee will conduct a thorough, discreet process and ultimately will provide guidance to the Executive Council on identifying a successor," DeWitt said in a statement. "All of the parties involved share the goal of acting in our games best interests…” As the committee searches for candidates they are going to have to consider the business of baseball more than ever. The game is losing its luster and is trending old. As baby boomers get older so do baseball fans and as the world has evolved in the way that it consumes sports and information in a quick-hitting, fast-paced way, baseball has gained a perception of being slow and boring. The next commissioner needs to find a way to engage the younger sports fan. He also needs to better market the games stars. Baseball players are rarely found on the most popular athletes lists. Football and basketball do a much better job in connecting the fans with their players. Baseball needs a salary cap. The union is staunchly against it, but the long-term health of the game needs it. The playing field needs to be leveled to maintain the financial viability of its franchises. Baseball needs a change in perception. Baseball has the toughest drug testing program and penalties in all of sports, yet it is still perceived to be soft on PEDs. Because Bud Selig is perceived to be the "Commissioner of the Steroid Era of Baseball," any new fface in the office should change that perception. Nike Air Max 95 Damen Günstig. . So who are the candidates? - George W. Bush, the former Texas Rangers owner and former President of the United States. President Bush understands the game and the owners. He also understands unions and the economy. Rob Manfred, Executive Vice President MLB. Manfred is Seligs right hand man. He is a Harvard Law School graduate and a brilliant man. He has been part of the last two collective bargaining negotiations with the union and oversees Labor Relations and Human Recourse for MLB. Andy McPhail, former executive for Twins, Cubs and Orioles. His teams won two World Series while he was with the Twins. His father and grandfather are both Hall of Famers. He is a very well-respected baseball lifer who is known for both his business and baseball acumen. David Dombrowski, current president and general manager of the Detroit Tigers. Dombrowski worked his way up the baseball ranks starting as an administrative assistant for the White Sox in 1978. He worked his way to the top through the Expos, Marlin and Tigers. He is the most highly thought of executive in the game. He is bright, mature, thoughtful and talented. He has great communication skills and treats people the right way with a strong presence. He has a thorough understanding of both the baseball and business sides of operations. Bob Bowman, oversees the billion dollar business of MLB Advanced Media which includes MLB.com and MLB.tv. He is an aggressive, combative business man who has a vision and the ability to execute it. He gets business, he gets baseball fans and he gets technology. If owners truly want to grow the industry and connect with fans, Bowman may be their guy. His style may rub some of the old guard the wrong way, but maybe that is a good thing. Finally, Steve Phillips, former NY Mets general manager. He may be overqualified for the position but still worth consideration. He lives in the proximity of New York City, understands the baseball and business sides of the operations and has strong opinions about where the game should go. A major obstacle could be his unwillingness to give up his weekly column on TSN.ca. I am sure that more candidates will come to light over the next year. If I were picking today, I would vote for David Dombrowski of the Detroit Tigers as he is respected by owners, general managers, the PA and the media. Not many other candidates can boast that clean sweep. Wait...I didnt vote for myself! What am I thinking? 4. So, I am officially ticked off. Jose Fernandez of the Marlins and Martin Perez of the Rangers are now the 18th and 19th MLB playersto need Tommy John surgery this year alone. There is all kinds of speculation about the reasons for the glut of surgeries. I have written about them here in the past. For each individual pitcher the reasons may be different, but we have a pretty good idea about the list from which the reasons come. So why would any baseball coach anywhere believe that allowing a pitcher to throw 194 pitches was acceptable? This week media reports documented a game of a high school pitcher in the state of Washington in which a young man, Dylan Fosnacht, threw that 194 pitches in a game in which he was allowed to pitch 14+ innings. This is criminal. To make matters worse, the catcher in the game, Dustin Wilson caught all 17 innings of the game and then pitched all seven innings of the second game of the doubleheader. The coach should be fired and I rarely, if ever, make statements like that. This is absurd. An official with the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association told reporters that the only rule they have about pitch limits is that if a kid throws four or more innings in a day he must be given two days off before pitching again. Really???? So Fosnacht could throw 194 pitches on Monday and another 194 on Thursday. Arm injuries are wear and tear injuries. Even when they happen in an acute way, they are from wear and tear. If a pitcher throws a pitch in the Majors and his ulna collateral ligament snaps in his arm, it is not solely because of the pitch he threw that day, but a by-product of all of the throwing he has done in his career. We can protect innings pitched and install strict pitch limits on MLB pitchers, but guys will still break down. Why? Because they are allowed to throw 194 pitches in a high school baseball game. Enough. It is time for baseball associations, Leagues, conferences or whatever groups are overseeing kids playing organized baseball to get this issue under control. Install pitch limits everywhere and at every level. Make sure that the boundaries that are in place are comprehensive and clear. We have to protect kids against themselves. If a coach asks a player if he is ok after throwing 120 pitches, he will most likely say yes because he doesnt want to disappoint the coach. Protect the coach against himself. If he wants to win so badly that he is willing to risk a kids health, then legislate it that he cant. Parents where are you? My experience is that baseball parents are some of the most meddling youth sports parents. The number of dads (and moms) who relive their youth through their kids baseball career is astronomical. Parents, you are at the games. You are there watching. Advocate for your kids. Hold the coaches accountable. Sure, it may mean a confrontation or a difficult conversation, but so what? The risk of not speaking up is significant. Youth football has started a campaign to educate coaches, parents and kids about concussions. They teach everyone what signs to look for. Coaches now have to attend clinics to teach proper form and technique to better ensure health. The childs well-being is made a priority. What are we waiting for in baseball? We need to educate coaches, parents and kids about what to look for with arm fatigue and injuries. We need to teach proper throwing techniques at a much younger age before bad habits get formed. Parents and coaches need to agree on what appropriate pitch limits are for kids whether it is legislated from their leagues or not. There must be better communication between coaches if players are playing in multiple leagues. Parents need to get involved to ensure the communication. There is a big difference between complaining to a coach about your sons position or playing time and advocating for his health. You are not causing trouble by speaking about pitch counts and innings limits. I am speaking from experience on this. There have been many times that I should have spoken up sooner than I did. Plus, my sons have told me at times that their arms are sore and I told them to go out and give it a try and see how it feels. That was a mistake. If a kids arm hurts, he shouldnt pitch or throw. Pitch limits and pitch counts in the major leagues can help, but they are only putting a bandage on wounds that may be decades old from abuse at the youth level. It is time to speak up!!!! ' ' '
THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Bernhard Langer birdied the final six holes for a share of the lead with Bart Bryant on Friday in the Champions Tours Insperity Invitational. New England Patriots Store . Langer matched Bryant at 6-under 66 at The Woodlands Country Club. Langer won the 2007 event at Augusta Pines and successfully defended his title in 2008 at The Woodlands. The 56-year-old German player won the season-opening event in Hawaii for his 19th Champions Tour title and has 20 straight under-par rounds. The birdie streak tied Dan Forsmans 2009 tournament record. "You want to keep going," Langer said. "I was sad the day was over. I wouldve liked to try a few more holes to make a few more birdies." Bryant won the Dicks Sporting Goods Open last year for his lone victory on the 50-and-over tour. He rebounded from a bogey on the par-5 13th with three straight birdies. "I felt like it was a real anomaly, but then to hit a really good iron shot and salvage the bogey was pretty big," he said. "That kept my spirits up." Defending champion Esteban Toledo was a stroke back. Last year, he became the first Mexican winner in Champions Tour history, beating Mike Goodes with a par on the third hole of a playoff. "I just have to get used to the position where Im at," Toledo said. "Im not scared. Ive played on the tour against Tiger in front of 50,000 people. Maybe more than that. Im not afraid to lose. I might lose but Im not afraid." Toledo, who moved to The Woodlands after last years tournament, said he is still in a whirlwind from that win. "To be honest with you, I cant believe I see my pictures on those little badges," he said. "Its funny to me. Ive never seen anything like that. It kind of got me going." Woodlands resident Jeff Maggert, Fred Funk and Joe Daley shot 68. Maggert won in Mississippi in March in his first start on the 50-and-over tour. LAKE LOUISE, Alta. Air Jordan 19 For Sale . -- American Lindsey Vonn will make her long-awaited World Cup skiing debut Friday. The reigning Olympic womens downhill champion hasnt competed since tearing ligaments in her right knee and breaking a bone in her leg at the world championships in February. She skipped Thursdays training run but the American ski star said via Twitter she intended to make her return to racing here. "Ive decided to take today as a "rest day" but I will be racing tomorrow," Vonn said. "I cant wait for my first race." Downhill races are scheduled for Friday and Saturday followed by Sundays super-G. Germanys Maria Hoefl-Riesch was the fastest in training Thursday with a time of one minute 56.52 seconds. Norways Lotte Smiseth Sejersted was second, followed by Austrian Anna Fenninger. Larisa Yurkiw of Owen Sound, Ont., is the lone Canadian in the downhill and was 23rd. Vonn has won a record 14 World Cup races at Lake Louise, which has earned the nickname "Lake Lindsey" because of her dominance. She swept all three races the last two years. But the 29-year-old arrived at the Alberta resort with questions surrounding her knee. She partially tore one of the surgically-reconstructed ligaments while training in Copper Mountain, Colo., two weeks ago. Vonn didnt compete in the first downhill of the season last weekend in Beaver Creek, Colo. Vonn was 22nd in the first training run Wednesday. "You know if your body is ready or not and I know that mine is ready," she said in a statement posted on the U.S. Ski Federation website. "Normally this is the first downhill of the year, so for me this feels like a normal beginning of the season. It feels pretty awesome. "My goal (Wednesday) was to ski solid and to ski my race line and I did that. I knew that if I could accomplish all those things in one run, then I dont need a second run. Its the smart choice for me to not ski today in order to prepare for (Friday)." Vonn is a four-time overall World Cup champion. Arcidiacono had six points and two assists in the extra period. He hustled for a loose ball with 37.7 seconds left that allowed Villanova coach Jay Wright to call a timeout and avoid a turnover. James Bell, who finished with 30 points, followed with two free throws to make it a three-possession game for the Wildcats (17-2, 6-1 Big East). Todd Mayo had 18 points including the last 10 in regulation for Marquette (11-9, 3-4) to help force overtime at 77-77. A layup by Villanovas Tony Chennault with one second left in regulation was waved off by the officials after Steve Taylor, Jr., drew a charging foul. Wright pleaded with the officials while Marquettes fans erupted in jubilation. Arcidiacono helped his coach forget about the frantic ending, and Villanova snapped Marquettes 20-game winning streak in home conference games. Marquettes last loss at home to a Big East foe was 67-60 to Cincinnati on March 2, 2011. The Golden Eagles had the third-longest such streak in the country entering Saturday behind Gonzaga and Weber State, who were both at 23 games. The hard-fought win for Villanova at one of the toughest venues in the league helped ease the sting of a humbling 28-point loss at home earlier in the week to Creighton. Darrun Hilliard had 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting for Villanova. Davante Gardner had 29 points and 13 rebounds for Marquette. The Wildcats frustratedd Marquette early with jumpers, but Gardner led the Golden Eagles push in the paint to stay within a possession or two for much of the second half. Cheap Air Jordan Online. Villanova turned away every run -- until the end of regulation. The Wildcats kept it interesting after missing 5 of 7 from the free throw line in a stretch in the final 1:11. Mayo followed a running jumper with a three from the corner to get Marquette within 75-74 with 13.2 seconds left. Arcidiacono responded with two free throws, but then fouled Mayo on three-point attempt at the other end with 4.8 seconds left. Mayo hit all three free throws -- the last one tantalizingly bouncing on the rim a couple times before falling through for a 77-77 tie. It set up Chennaults contested drive for a potential game-winner, but the officials charging call whipped the crowd into a frenzy. Overtime had seemed unattainable after JayVaughn Pinkstons dunk gave Villanova a 68-57 lead with 4:53 to play. But the Golden Eagles fought back in their third straight overtime game before falling short. Villanova allowed an opponent to shoot at least 50 per cent from the field a second straight game, a startling statistic for a team that prided itself on holding teams under that mark for 47 straight games. While Creighton did its damage from the perimeter, Marquette pounded the ball inside with a 54-30 advantage in the paint. The bullish 6-foot-8 Gardner led the way, shooting 9 of 16. Marquette, though, wasted opportunities at the free throw line, especially in regulation, and finished 21 of 31 for the game. ' ' '
MONTREAL - Goaltender Carey Price produced a 36-save gem in his return from an injury for the Montreal Canadiens. Nike Air Max Factory Outlet .Price, who is headed to the all-star game this week in Columbus, saw his team outshot 25-4 through the first 30 minutes only to bounce back with a strong second half and pull out a 2-1 overtime win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night. You dont want to be looking up at the scoreboard halfway through the game and seeing four shots on net, said Price, who returned after missing two games with an upper-body injury. But we wound up with 27 shots, so we started getting pucks on net. I think we grabbed more momentum after that.Alex Galchenyuk tied the game in the third period and P.K. Subban got the winner 4:09 into overtime, both on the power play, as Montreal (29-13-3) won a second game in a row and a third in its last four.Mike Ribeiro finally beat Price on Nashvilles 26th shot of the game at 12:10 of the second period, but Montreal then turned the tables to get the win. Final shots were 37-27 for Nashville, who were without injured star goalie Pekka Rinne for a third game. Were not going to play perfect every game, said Price. As long as we can rope-a-dope a bit when were not playing well and stay in the game, at least we give ourselves a chance to get that big goal and start grabbing momentum. Weve been able to do that this year.It was the first time in 14 occasions this season that the Central Division leading Predators failed to win coming off a defeat. They lost 5-2 to Detroit in their previous outing on Saturday. The first half of the game belonged to the Predators, said Montreal coach Michel Therrien. They played well and showed why theyre a top team in the west.I dont think we started the game with the right attitude, but we regrouped well. Thats whats important.Nashville scored just after Ribeiro missed an open side after a perfect feed from Filip Forsberg. Price lost his stick on the play, and was beaten by a point shot from Seth Jones that Ribeiro deflected in front of the net.The Canadiens tied it with Craig Smith sitting out holding call at 2:02 of the third when Subban, a moment after hitting a goalpost, fed Galchenyuk for a re-direct from the edge of the crease past Carter Hutton. It was Smith again who was sent off for tripping in overtime, and Subban ended it with a blast from the point for his 11th goal of the season. It was Montreals seventh power-play goal in its last four games.Every game is different, said Subban. You have to know there are going to be tough games where you dont have your legs and youre not first on the puck all the time.So you have to be smart and put the puck in the right places and support each other. Its a long season, but these games mean something for team morale. It was a big game for Subban, who had a goal and an assist and led his team with 22:51 of ice time.P.K. took charge tonight, said Therrien. He was a big leader for us. It was the last game for both teams before the all-star game on Sunday in Columbus.Price said he is looking forward to the weekend and meeting up with friends from past all-star games. That includes members of Canadas gold-medal winning team at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia, starting with Predators defenceman Shea Weber.Itll be fun, said Price, who will be accompanied by rookie teammate Jiri Sekac. Obviously, going to a golf course in Florida would be nice, but at the same time, its a privilege to represent my team at an all-star game and Im happy to go.The Canadiens got a break midway through the second when one official called Andrei Markov for high-sticking, only to rule there was no penalty after a linesman informed him that Olli Jokinen had been hit above the left eye by a puck, not a stick. The Bell Centre crowd had roared in disapproval when the replay was shown on the scoreboard.Notes — Ribeiro, who began his NHL career in Montreal, has 12 points in 10 games against the Canadiens. . . INGLEWOOD, Calif. Matt Strahm Jersey . -- Juan Manuel Marquez fought 12 times at the Forum in the early days of his record-setting career, and the Mexican champion fondly remembers almost every round. Even as an unknown featherweight prospect, Marquez loved the crackling atmosphere of the 1990s fight cards at the once-Fabulous Forum, where Lakers owner Jerry Buss indulged his passion for boxing by putting on hundreds of shows. Hollywood glitterati and hard-core fight fans mingled in Buss famed arena, which fell into decline after the Lakers and the NHLs Kings moved downtown to Staples Center in 1999. The Forum still holds a beloved place in the minds of California sports fans -- and after 13 years of inactivity, the building is back in the boxing business. Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KOs) gets the privilege of re-christening a building where he has never lost. "I feel very happy, because I get to fight in a great place," said Marquez, who made his Forum debut in 1995. "It is a beautiful, historical place." Marquez is hoping to revive the excitement when he takes on Mike Alvarado (34-2, 23 KOs) on Saturday night at the Forum, which has been rehabilitated by The Madison Square Garden Co. with everything from a fresh coat of red exterior paint to a thoroughly refurbished interior. Marquezs welterweight showdown with the hard-punching Alvarado live on HBO is the first fight card since 2001 at the Forum, where dozens of Mexican and American boxers got their first big fights. Its also the place where Top Ranks Bob Arum promoted Muhammad Alis second fight with Ken Norton in 1973, back when Jack Kent Cooke owned the building. "I really missed it when they closed the Forum as an entertainment and sports venue," Arum said. "They used it as a church for a while, and nothing pleases me more than that it is back as a sports venue and hosting a boxing event." Arum put together a compelling main event for the Forums return. Although both fighters are coming off a loss, Marquez and Alvarado are among two of the worlds most entertaining fighters at their weights, with Alvarados boldness and brawling instincts contrasting nicely with Marquezs skill and counterpunching. Marquez has won world championships in four weight classes, and a victory over Alvarado would set him up for a shot at a fifth title at 147 pounds. The winner of this bout is likely to fight Manny Pacquiao in the fall, which means Marquez would get a fifth bout with the Filipino congressman after winning their fourth meeting by spectacular knockout. "I concentrate only on this fight," Marquez said. "Maybe in the future Ill think about that fight, but right now, the most important fight of my career is against Alvarado, because he is a strong fighter and a tough fighter." Alvarado is eager to bounce back from a difficult loss to Ruslan Provodnikov, who stopped Alvarado and took his 140-pound title last fall. While Alvarado would love the career-changing opportunity of a fight with Pacquiao, hes grateful for the chance to fight Marquez, who ranks right alongside Pacquiao among their generations best boxers. "Im here to put on a better show and perform at a higher level," Alvarado said. "This is where I belong, and Im going to show that this weekend." Although the main event is compelling, the return of boxing to the Forum will evoke fond memories for veterans of the fight game. Arum is hoping the card creates new excitement in Inglewood for future visits in an area already featuring several excellent boxing venues, including the outdoor StubHub Center in Carson. "I see that a lot of the fighters (for this weekend) are staying at the Marriott at the airport," Arum said. "When we did the Ali-Norton II fight, that was the fight headquarters as well. That was what, 41 years ago? Oh my, I was a thin, young handsome guy. Now Im an old, fat guy. It was a great night, a good fight. Norton gave Ali trouble. The fight at the Forum was very close, and Ali pulled it out." LOS ANGELES -- A little bit of tweaking to the starting lineup by coach Mike DAntoni worked wonders for the Los Angeles Lakers, resulting in a dominant first half against the Atlanta Hawks. Jonathon Niese Jersey . Then came the second half, and they ended up fighting for their lives to escape with a victory. Xavier Henry scored 18 points, Pau Gasol hit two tiebreaking free throws with 6 seconds remaining, and the Lakers beat the Hawks 105-103 on Sunday night after blowing a 21-point lead. "There was a little bit of an energy drop in the second half and a lot of missed assignments, but we picked it up and a lot of guys made some good plays," Henry said. "I dont want to say it was because we wanted it more, but you could tell. When the game was on the line, guys were like: We were already up 20. We were not going to let this one slip by." Henry started at forward for the first time as a Laker and the 19th time in 137 NBA games, while Nick Young came off the bench. DAntonis intention with the lineup change was to perk up the team at the outset, and also inject some energy into the Lakers second unit while doing likewise for the cold-shooting Young. "Were still trying to find the right combinations and rack up the wins while we do it," Henry said of the growing pains the club is going through without Kobe Bryant. "We have a lot of new guys, and a lot of guys still need to learn how to play with each other. Were trying new lineups and stuff, so were still going to be working and trying to compete." Henry, who received nine stitches in his forehead during Fridays loss to San Antonio after colliding with teammate Wesley Johnsons knee on a drive to the basket and missed all six of his shots that night, was 5 for 11 from the field against the Hawks. "Ive been playing those guys for a while, so I really didnt have to change anything," Henry said. "Basically I just had to go out there and still be aggressive and still be consistent." Gasol had 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Steve Nash had 13 points and six assists and Young finished with 13 points. Kyle Korver led Atlanta with 22 points, converting all six 3-point attempts, but his attempt at a tying 21-footer from the right baseline was blocked by Gasol as time ran out. Hawks point guard Jeff Teague had 14 points and six assists after missing his first five shots. "We cant put ourselves in that situation, to always climb uphill," Hawks forward Paul Millsap said. "We have to do a better job of starting the game off." Two nights after shooting only 37 per cent from the field and blowing a 15-point lead against the Spurs despite the absence of injured centre Tim Duncan in the paint, Los Angeles shot 42.7 per cent against the Hawks. And for the first time this season, all five Lakers starters connected from 3-point range while the team went 9 for 25 from behind the arc. Trailing by 12 points after three quarters, the Hawks narrowed the gap to 90-83 on a jumper by Dennis Schroder with 10:25 remaining. Chris Kaman then lost the ball out of bounds on the Lakers next possession and committed his fifth foul on an offensive charge 34 seconds later. Millsap got the last of his 14 points on an 11-footer that tied it at 103-all with 35.3 seconds left, after Korvers sixth 3-pointer made it a two-point spread. "Theres a few things they can do to get a guy like that open," Henry said of Korver. "If they want to get someone open, they can set enough screens to do that. He was running around them and finding his way." Eleven Lakers got into the scoring column as they built a 62-49 halftime lead, without anyone on the team reaching double digits. Young, who shot 6 for 22 over his first three games, made four of his first five field goal attempts -- including a 17-footer that capped a 15-2 run and gave the Lakers a 44-23 lead with 9:19 left in the second quarter. "I think we came out with the right mindset, but they just came out and hit us first," Hawks centre Al Horford said. "Coach (Mike Budenholzer) definitely challenged us in the second half, and we were much better. I think our second unit changed it early in the fourth, making plays and getting the momentum going our way." The Lakers have beaten the Hawks eight straight times at home and have won 21 of the last 24 meetings at Los Angeles dating to Feb. 2, 1990 at the Forum. Last season at Staples Center, the Lakers won 99-98 on a layup by Bryant with 9 seconds remaining after they blew a 16-point second-half lead. PHOENIX -- Cornerback Patrick Peterson says he has reached agreement on a five-year, $70 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals, with $48 million guaranteed. Wholesale Air Jordan . Peterson revealed the terms via twitter Tuesday night. The Cardinals announced the deal a short time later, but did not disclose the terms. The agreement keeps Peterson under contract with Arizona through 2020. Peterson has made the Pro Bowl in each of his three seasons in the NFL, first as a kick returner then the last two years at cornerback, after Arizona made him the No. 5 pick overall out of LSU in 2011. He had two years left on his original contract after Arizona had picked up its fifth-year option earlier this year. The personable, self-proclaimed best cornerback in the NFL probably wanted the world to know his deal exceeded those of cornerbacks Joe Haden of Cleveland and Richard Sherman of Seattle. Haden signed a five-year, $68 million contract with $45 million guaranteed and Sherman got a four-year, $56 million deal with $40 million guaranteed. Peterson is the first to reach agreement in the initial class of the players subjected to a fifth-year option on their contract. Under the latest collective bargaining agreement, players picked 1 through 10 have a fifth-year option on their contracts that clubs can exercise. That group includes Cam Newton and J.J. Watt. In fact, Peterson is the first of any 2011 first-round pick to reach an agreement on an extension. A news conference with Peterson was scheduled for Wednesday morning. "Want to thank my family, friends and teammates, all of .P2Nation and the best agent in the biz," Peterson said in another tweet. Peterson has jousted with Sherman over who is the best cornerback in the NFL. Peterson laid his claim to the fact he plays all over the field, defending the opponents best receiver. Sherman plays on one side. Both were first-team All-Pro selections last season. Peterson and Mike Woodson are the only players to make the Pro Bowl as a kick returner and cornerback. Peterson is one of seven players to make three Pro Bowls before his 24th birthday -- which he celebrated July 11. He has started all 48 games since coming to the NFL. In those three seasons, he had 12 interceptions, 162 tackles, a sack, 60 passes defenced and a fumble recovery. Peterson returned four punts for touchdowns as a rookie, including a 99-yarder to beat St. Louis in overtime, but has not had any since. He said he has been told he wont return punts or play on offence, as he did some last year, and will concentrate only on playing cornerback. "I think thats just going to take my game to another level now," he said at his locker on Monday , "because now I dont have to focus on the punt return, try to remember the offensive plays, or things like that. I can just hone in on playing defensive back and being the best player that I can be." Cheap Jordan .
